Welcome to Community Alcohol Partnerships

The Ovenden Community Alcohol Partnership’s Week of Action was a series of activities planned to raise awareness and tackle underage drinking between Monday 19 June  – Saturday 24 June 2017.

It included spraying warning stencils on local pavements to warn against buying alcohol for children; alcohol interventions training; events for young people and a visit to Trinity Academy to talk about the consequences and impact of alcohol related antisocial behaviour.

Education is key to the CAP and a vital part of the week’s activity was talking directly to young people as well as visiting retailers to raise awareness about the law around alcohol sales and the impact of underage alcohol consumption on individuals and the community.

More than 130 CAPs have now been set up across the UK as a way to tackle underage drinking and anti-social behaviour.

The Reading Community Alcohol Partnership is clearly very active around the town and it’s good to hear that its multi-agency approach is aiming to tackle underage drinking through direct engagement with young people, enforcing the law with regard to underage consumption and proxy purchasing, and maintaining a constructive dialogue with businesses and retailers.
