Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAP) is pleased to announce that 25 CAPs across England, Scotland and Wales have been awarded grants from our newly established Innovation Fund.

This funding aims to support and expand creative, community-led initiatives to address underage drinking and associated anti-social behaviour and help support CAP’s mission for an alcohol-free childhood.

The Innovation Fund, launched earlier this year, is designed to encourage CAPs to develop and implement innovative positive activities for children and young people. The response from CAPs has been overwhelmingly positive, with numerous applications showcasing a wide range of inventive approaches to tackle local alcohol-related issues amongst children and young people.

“We are incredibly proud to support 25 CAPs with booster funding from our newly established Innovation Fund, made possible through our partnership with ASDA" said CAP Director, Kate Winstanley. "The enthusiasm and creativity demonstrated by our partnerships in their proposals are truly inspiring. Our funding will enable these communities to pioneer new ideas that support an alcohol-free childhood, with the significant benefits that brings to individuals and communities. We are excited to see the positive impact these projects will have and look forward to sharing their successes."

The awarded projects include a variety of initiatives such as educational programmes in schools, community engagement activities, and collaborative efforts between partners such as local Police forces, youth organisations and local authorities. Each project is tailored to the specific needs of the local community, ensuring that the initiatives are relevant and effective.

Projects include:

  • A film project in the North West of England involving young people and older adults with direct or indirect lived experience of alcohol misuse talking about their experiences in a series of short films. The videos will be shared on social media and will raise awareness of alcohol harm amongst children and young people.
  • The transformation of an underpass in a local community in Scotland, creating a welcoming place for people to travel through and discouraging anti-social behavior in the area.
  • The development of a ‘Rights Festival’ for young people aged 11-18 in the Vale of Glamorgan with an overarching aim of providing information and tools to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the county.

This funding marks a significant step forward in CAP's mission to reduce alcohol harm among young people through community-based solutions. By investing in innovative approaches, CAP continues to lead the way in promoting healthier and safer environments for everyone.
